Your First Visit – Information Gathering Day

When you arrive at our Mesa office, Julia, our receptionist, is typically the first face you will see. She’s very nice, and can speak Spanish. Julia will ask you to complete some initial intake forms, and will copy your insurance card and drivers license. If you have been involved in an auto accident, we ask that you bring the accident report and your auto insurance information. This will all be copied and kept in your file.

After the forms are completed, the doctor will review your paperwork while Julia takes your vitals (height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, and temp). If you have never been to a chiropractor before or haven’t been in a long time we will show you a short video.

You will then meet with our favorite Mesa chiropractor, Dr. Ahnen for an interview.

He will ask you some pertinent questions so he can best understand your case. After the interview, the doctor will complete an exam in one of our adjusting rooms, and then x-rays if needed.

After Dr. Ahnen has gathered the information from the history, exam, X-rays (if taken), labs, and ruled out any contraindications, treatment is typically given (depending on your condition and past experience with chiropractic).

Treatment may be some physiotherapy, massage, nutrition, or may include an adjustment, if the condition and patient expectation warrants it.

After treatment you will be given some instructions as to what you can do at home (ice/heat, walk, herbs and vitamins, stretch, etc), and when to come back for your next treatment.

A referral will be given if your condition is something we cannot help you with.

Your Second Visit – Information Reporting Day

When you arrive we ask you to fill out a brief soap note indicating your subjective complaints.

We will have you watch a short video, and then you will meet with the doctor in his office for the review of findings.

The doctor will go over your x-rays, explain your condition in detail, how we’re going to treat it, and answer any questions you have.

The doctor will explain your individual treatment plan which includes; how many times a week you will need to receive treatment and what kind of treatment you will receive.

The doctor will typically give you home care instructions which may include; ergonomics, exercise, nutrition, and stress reduction. “I sit down and take the time to go over these items in detail.

Patients often review that no one has ever taken the time to explain these things to them in the past,” states Dr. Ahnen.

After your consultation the doctor will typically start treatment with an adjustment and any other recommended treatments.

Julia will also discuss insurance and financial information with you.

This visit can take 30 minutes to an hour, or more depending on your particular condition.

A Typical Office Visit – No waiting. Your time is important!

When you arrive for a regular office visit we ask that you sign in and then complete the top portion of your soap note.

We don’t like to keep you waiting so you are brought right in for treatment.

You might start on the Intersegmental (IST) “roller” table, Physiotherapy, Massage Therapy, or Adjustment depending on what’s open or available.

All of our employees are licensed Chiropractic Assistants (CA) including, our Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT).

Julia typically does all the therapies, although sometimes our LMT’s will do the therapies if Julia or the doctor are busy with patients.

Because treatments vary, time varies per visit.

You can expect to be in the office anywhere from 5 minutes to over an hour.

Typical adjustments only take minutes, massage 30-60 minutes, acupuncture 30 minutes, and physiotherapy usually 15-30 minutes.

Most patients also lay on the IST table, which we call the “roller,” for about 10 minutes. Your time is valuable to us, so we keep you busy while you’re here.

Julia typically collects payment at the end of your visit and makes your next appointment.

Like a regular workout at the gym, each visit builds on the ones before.

Miss a visit and you can lose the momentum necessary to make the needed changes.

We recognize your time is valuable. So we do everything possible to run on time and minimize the impact on your busy life.
